For the past 30 years the Tualatin Valley Council has recognized a couple or individual who has made a significant contribution to the square dancing community. This award is for outstanding dedication and consistently promoting square and round dancing.
We are pleased to announce the TVC Recognition Award for 2024 is presented to Ronnie & Joann Swanson
Ronnie & Joann Swanson are well-known figures at TVC club dances and Oregon festivals and are welcoming and encouraging to all. They met square dancing in California over 40 years ago and are members of Sunset Promenaders and Eager Beavers. Ronnie & Joann are currently serving as TVC Vice President couple and are Treasurers of Eager Beavers.
Prior to relocating to Oregon they served as club officers in several Bay Area square dance clubs including past president of the Northern California Square Dance Association, and past chairman of the Golden State Round-Up. They were the official photographers of the 2009 National Square Dance Convention and are past officers of Pacific Moose Lodge in California.
Locally Ronnie & Joann are members of the Aloha Grange where they have started quarterly blood drives, were instrumental with the procurement and the installation of a stair lift, and installed an emergency AED device. Aloha now has 13 AED certified responders.
In addition to their contributions to square dancing, Ronnie & Joann are very active in the community. They are CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) volunteers. They have used their skills with the Hillsboro Air Show, the Portland Rose Festival Parade, the Hillsboro 4th of July Parade, Hood to Coast Run, and Covid immunization sites.
With thanks and gratitude, we offer Ronnie & Joann Swanson our sincerest congratulations for displaying a spirit of service in pursuit of happiness in dancing and public service.
